Optical Advancement Board

The Transitions Diversity Advisory Board was originally formed in 2010 to help guide the company’s multicultural initiatives and further strengthen its ability to help eyecare professionals provide culturally and linguistically appropriate vision care to a diverse patient base. In 2025, we rebranded as the Optical Advancement Board to better reflect our expanded mission: making quality eyecare accessible to all.

Cultural and language barriers can make it hard to communicate with patients – and can stand in the way of the patient receiving the best possible vision care. Even patients who speak fluent English may feel more comfortable communicating in another language. Now, the Optical Advancement Board is focused on making an impact on the diverse representation of eyecare professionals. The Board, now welcoming volunteers, helps identify new programs and tools to support eyecare professionals in their efforts to provide the best possible experience for all patients.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT AS AN OPTICAL ADVANCEMENT BOARD VOLUNTEER?

  • Connect with fellow Board members who share your passion for advancing diversity in eyecare.
  • Develop impactful resources, educational materials, and presentations.
  • Support community outreach by participating in events that provide eye exams and eyewear to underserved communities.
  • Inspire the next generation by encouraging diverse students to explore careers in the optical industry.
  • Engage in multicultural and educational panels that promote inclusive eyecare.
  • Network with industry leaders at exclusive events.
